Runners give Pendleside Hospice boost

THE Burnley and Pendle Grand Prix played host to a new 5k Road Race on Sunday at Towneley Park – all to raise funds for Pendleside Hospice.

The flat fast course saw current grand prix leader, Stephen Chew, was beaten into second place by Marc Hartley in a time of 15 min. 55 sec.

For the women, Amy Green of Keighley and Craven AC claimed the ladies prize in a time of 18 min. 34 sec. Elisabeth Greenwood, of Blackburn Harriers was second woman and the first junior in a time of 10 min. 1 sec. Following in third place and also second junior was Helena Leathey, of Clayton Harriers.

The Vet category winners for the men were:

V40 Gary Shaw (Clayton Harriers), V45 Glen Goodwin (Accrington Road Runners), V50 Kieran Horrigan (Unattached), V55 Thornton Taylor (Rossendale Harriers), V65 Tom Targett (Clayton Harriers) and V70 Richard Lawson (Clayton Harriers).

The Vet category winners for the men were: FV35 Gayle Whittaker (Clayton Harriers), FV40 Amanda Stirling (Keighley & Craven), FV50 Irene Roche (Clayton Harriers) and FV60 Glenis Speak (Northern Vets).

John Roche, chairman of the Burnley and Pendle Grand Prix, thanked the sponsor Kieran Fletcher (Fundamental Coaching) and everyone for their support and for helping to raise funds in aid of Pendleside Hospice.
