SOME unbelievable hitting from Graham Lalor saw Burnley rescue a tie in a thrilling game with Todmorden on Sunday.
Lalor, nicknamed “Noisy”, scored 37 not out from only 12 balls - including three sixes off the last three balls to avoid defeat in dramatic fashion.
He came in with the score on 102, chasing 142, and with only three overs left of a rain-reduced 25-over game.
Lalor dispatched five sixes in total, one actually cleared the Cricket Field Stand of the adjoining football club, and off the last over, 23 were needed off visiting professional Qaiser Abbas.
That went down to 19 required off the last three balls, and Lalor promptly hit Abbas for three consecutive sixes over long off to seal a tie to the delight of the supporters.
Earlier in the afternoon, play didn’t start until 3-55 p.m. due to the wet outfield and rain which seems to be ever present this summer.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, and set off at a quick pace and scored 58 off only 12 overs until James Capstick took the important wicket of Simon Newbitt for 36.
Then professional Adnan Rasool continued his fine form and took 4-49 off 13 overs, with Abbas scoring 50 not out.
In reply, Burnley got off to the worst possible start and collapsed to 6-3 wickets off four overs.
Then skipper Bharat Tripathi (36) and Steve Brunt took the score to 84 until Tripathi was caught trying to up the tempo as the run rate climbed to over 10 an over.
Brunt scored 56 off 61 balls including four sixes and fell when the score was at 101 to a catch in the deep.
Then it turned into the Lalor show to secure the tie and seven points in an exciting game and a great advert for Lancashire League cricket.
