Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club’s youngest pugilists saw action over the weekend at the Sharpstyle ABC Show at the De-Vere Hotel, Blackpool.
Five future prospects graced the ring, with Earby’s Keenan “Jerry” McGuire (10) first up against J.Johnson (Sharpstyle ABC), and Burnley’s Nathan “Tyson” Danson(10) facing R.Boswell, also of Sharpstyle, in non-decision England Boxing skills bouts. Both boys performed superbly in front of the large crowd, displaying great ringcraft and skills.
Making his full debut Rio “DJ” Lynch (11) took on Staffordshire’s M.Bartlett (Right Stuff ABC) in the show’s first competitive encounter, which was a real crowd pleaser.
Straight from the bell Bartlett charged towards Stoop’s Estate’s Lynch, who calmly side stepped and proceeded to pepper Bartlett throughout the contest, making great use of his looping rear hand.
The second and third rounds showed just why the Cherry Fold Year 6 pupil is hotly tipped, showing great composure and technique, outclassing Bartlett to claim a unanimous verdict and the Boxer of the Show award.
Minors NW champion “Smokin’” Joe Crawford (11) narrowly lost out to J. McGuinness (Egans ABC) - himself a NW Schoolboy champion the year above.
Unity Year 7 pupil Harvey “Hurricane” Fletcher (12) kept his unbeaten record against J.Smith (Sharpstyle ABC), contrrolling the bout throughout, with his more aggressive style.
Sandygate’s NW Junior champions are in action this weekend in the National Pre quarter-finals in Manchester against Merseyside and Cheshire champions.
