Youngsters at Burnley Rugby Club had some extra spring in their step when they enjoyed a healthy breakfast prior to training.

The innovative initiative is part of the club’s efforts not just to coach rugby but a wider effort to educate the youngsters about healthy eating and its importance for general well-being.

It proved so popular that the club is hoping to make it a monthly event

Junior coach Mick McGee said: “It was a well supported event, greatly appreciated by youngsters and parents as well as reinforcing the message that a healthy breakfast is essential not just for sport but your general well-being”

On Friday there will be a session for any girls Years 7-9 wanting to try out rugby at the club in Holden Road at 1pm.

On Saturday, the 1sts and 3rds are at home to Oldham and Tarleton. The 1sts kick off at 2-30pm , the 3rds at 3pm , while the 2nds travel to Sale.

The home games will be preceded at noon by a lunch for any supporters or former players, details on 424337.
