Young Burnley kickboxer is world champion

A BURNLEY youngster is now a world champion after competing in the International Combat Organisation World Cup with his dad at Disneyland Paris.

Paul Marsden and son Ryan, members of the Black Knights club in Burnley, joined more than 1,000 competitors from all over the world at the prestigious event.

Paul took part in the Master Light Contact Kickboxing competition, defeating a German easily on points in the semi-final.

He took on a much heavier Frenchmen in the final and although he managed to go the distance he was beat into silver medal position on points.

Thirteen-year-old Ryan qualified at the English Championships and taking part Junior Boys Light Contact division, he made it to the final where he faced off against a local French boy.

Ryan bossed the first round with highly skilful combinations of kicks and punches and continued to dominate the rest of the final, winning every round clearly on points.
