Burnley based brothers, Matt and Harry Hartley, had a tough time at round four of the Sunoco British 125GP Championship, at Thruxton in Hampshire aboard their CN Racing Hondas.
The unlucky pair suffered a double DNF, with Harry crashing out on the opening lap of the race and Matt suffering a mechanical problem with just four laps left to run.
The weekend had started out well for Harry, who had been running in the top eight throughout qualifying, which was impressive as Thruxton isn’t a circuit the Hartleys are familiar with.
Unfortunately he tipped off during second qualifying and had to settle for ninth place on the grid.
Matt used second qualifying to improve his track knowledge by riding around on his own working on his lines.
This meant that he didn’t improve on his time from first qualifying so ended up in 29th place on the grid.
The weather turned to heavy rain for race day leaving the brothers to tackle the high speed track in difficult conditions.
Harry said: “It was all going well until I tipped into the final chicane.
“I’d run a little wide and I went to pull it back when both wheels just went.
“That was it unfortunately.
“I’ll just have to put it behind me and look forward to Knockhill.”
Matt said: “I had a problem with my exhaust so I had to pull in.
“It’s a shame as I’d made up 10 places and was really enjoying my race.
“It’s just one of those things I guess.”
