Tornados reclaim the Rosebowl after thrilling game

The competition originated back in 2012, when four local teams would compete, but for the past couple of years it has been down to the Tornados and Buccaneers, as Standish Raiders and Lancashire Wolverine Colts have folded.

The Tornados have won the trophy twice and the Buccaneers once.

Chorley were on the offense to start and made a quick play into their endzone, scoring the first six points.

The Tornados prevented the conversion and were then on offense themselves, but a wayward pass led to an interception, which Chorley returned for another score.

After trading touchdowns, Ollie Norwood and Rob Welti scoring for the Tornados, the score at the half meant Burnley had a lot to do, 19-13 down.

The Tornados are known for being a strong second half team and that was the case, as from the off, quarterback Ben Parker handed the ball to Norwood, who ran the length of the field to bring the claret and blue team to within one point.

After each team added touchdowns, and with another full length field run by Norwood, the game was 26-24 in the Tornados’ favour.

A magnificent drive by the Buccaneers once again put them in front at 30-26, but the Tornados held firm and prevented the conversion points.

Well into the two minute warning, Tommie Bryan a touchdown pass and kicked the conversion for the Tornados, securing a 33-30 win, and returning the Rosebowl trophy back to the Tornados’ trophy cabinet.

MVPs on the day went to Bryan, Norwood and Tom Keijzer.
