Burnley Tornados’ junior side remain in sight of the play-offs as the season reaches its climax.
But they left it to the fourth quarter to secure another win against Merseyside Nighthawks at Holt House.
The first quarter went back and forth with Burnley coming closest to scoring, having a touchdown disallowed.
The second quarter saw the Nighthawks take command, Burnley’s defense missing tackles, allowing the opposition to score.
The Nighthawks were stopping Burnley’s running plays by blocking Flynn Griffith from twisting and turning his way into the endzone, but he managed to make one score.
Ben Dyer and Andy Hawkes then chased the ball into the endzone for a safety and the Tornados led 8-6.
The lead did not last long as the Nighthawks capitalised on a Burnley fumble and at the end of the half were up 14-8.
The Nighthawks recovered the ball and extended their lead to 12 in the third, but Griffith worked his way into the endzone to reduce the deficit.
George Flesher added a safety to take Burnley to within four points, and in the fourth quarter, Phil Robins launched a long throw towards Gino Mann, was able to catch and turn and score.
Xavier Sutcliffe scored the conversion, before Griffith again ran the ball into the endzone and Robins scored the conversion to make it 32-20.
