St Peter’s Burnley finished the season as they started, with a defeat, losing 5-0 to the newly-crowned champions East Lancs in the North West Counties Squash League.

Jon Smith put up a spirited display but was only going to come second against a talented youngster.

Ron Darlington, Nic Czernianin and Daniel Whittaker also found the going tough and were all beaten 3-0 in short time.

The number one Rod Taggart put up a brave fight but he to went the way of his colleagues 3-0.

So the season finishes.

However, the future looks great for the next season.

St Peter’s won 42% of their games and finished 12th in the league, but with one more victory they would have finished eighth.

And Taggart set a new club record of nine straight wins in the league.

Smith has made steady progress and Scott Wise, Paul Swindells, Czernianin and Daniel Whittaker also impressed.
