Pupils from St John the Baptist RC Primary School represented Burnley in style at the 10th annual SPAR Lancashire Youth Games tag rugby county finals last week.
Teams representing 16 schools from across Lancashire took part in the finals at Preston Grasshoppers, and St John’s won the Bowl competition!
It was a fantastic day despite the weather, and the children thoroughly enjoyed the competition, with the locals edging out Ansdell Primary from Fylde in the final.
Vase competition winners were Ribble Valley representatives Waddington and West Bradford Primary, beating Blackburn The Redeemer.
In the Plate competition, winners were Belthorn Primary from Hyndburn, beating West Lancashire
The Cup competition was won by Blacko Primary of Pendle, who beat Garstang St Thomas’.
VIPs from across the county attended to cheer on their local teams, including representatives from Lancashire Sport Partnership and the event sponsors, James Hall and Company Ltd - SPAR distributor for the North of England.
In addition, the first ever the SPAR Lancashire Youth Games mascot, the Leaping Lancashire Lion, was at the tag rugby county final.
The county finals represent the pinnacle of school sport in the county, with talented young competitors having fought off strong competition to represent their district at county level.
The events are organised by Lancashire School Sport Partnerships competition managers and Lancashire Sport Partnership, the strategic County Sports Partnership for Lancashire.
