Burnley’s North West Minor’s champion “Smokin’” Joe Crawford graced the squared circle once more against fellow North West Schoolboy Champion J. McGuinness (Egan’s ABC).
For the 12-year-old, it was a return contest on the Mancunian’s home show in Wthynenshaw WMC, as he hoped to overturn the result in another cracking contest between the pair.
With McGuinness having the slight edge in their first tear-up, it was sure to be a torrid affair, and both boys were eager to impress.
Straight from the opening bell, Sandygate’s Crawford charged towards his older foe, catching him flush with a long, looping rear hand to the head, forcing the Manchester boxer onto the back foot throughout the first round.
The second saw McGuinness try and keep centre, but Crawford started to work on the inside, throwing some near perfect upper-cuts with military precision, rolling in and out of range.
The third once more showed why the St Christopher’s Year 7 pupil is so highly thought of, as the Ightenhill boxer once more controlled the round.
And Crawford’s hand was raised aloft, the victor, by the referee, with even the home fans applauding the decision in favour of the Sandygate pugilist.
With it now standing at one apiece, a third meeting is again on the cards, with both boys finding it hard to find opponents due to their winning records.
