Shayne Singleton feels there is room for another fighter in Matchroom's pool of welterweights ahead of his appearance on the undercard of Anthony Crolla's world title defence at Manchester Arena.

The 26-year-old didn’t leave the impression he was hoping for when former English and Commonwealth champion Sam Eggington inflicted the first setback of his career with promoter Eddie Hearn sat ringside last March.

But another opportunity has resurfaced, and the former 140lb English champion isn’t prepared to let this one go without a scrap.

On May 7th, Singleton will face one-time Prizefighter victor Adil Anwar in front of 20,000 fans for the WBC International Silver title, previously taken away from him by the ‘Savage’.

“Nothing has been mentioned in terms of a contract but I’m hoping there’ll be something,” he said. “If I put on a good performance and win, there’s a chance I could be signed by Matchroom.

“That would be a dream. Eddie Hearn has already got Eggington, Frankie Gavin and Kell Brook but I think there’s room for another welterweight. I just want to give him something to think about.”

Jamie Robinson was lined up as Singleton’s opponent before withdrawing due to a shoulder injury, while Dale Evans’ team rebuffed the proposal, citing that it had been offered at too short notice.

However, Anwar has stepped up to the plate. The 28-year-old, who beat Tyrone Nurse to be crowned king of Prizefighter in 2012, has won 22 of 27 professional outings.

“It’s going to be amazing,” said Singleton. “I can’t wait for it. Eddie Hearn wanted me on his card and I’m facing a good fighter. The arena is going to be packed and I’m going to soak everything up and ensure that it’s a great experience from start to finish.

“This can move my career to the next level. I’m coming out of that fight a winner and with a new title.

“This is the biggest moment of my career and I’m going to do everything I can to beat him.

“It’s going to be brilliant; a very memorable night. Crolla is a top bloke and he’s fighting for a world title in his home city. It’s an honour to be a part of it.”
