IAN Ponton, partnered by Andrew “Tartan Express” Miller, won the men’s fourball betterball competition at Towneley Golf Club.

The Scottosh pairing had an excellent gross score of 68 and amassed a tally of 48 points to finish top of the field.

Gary Chadwick and Glyn Carlin were runners-up, two points adrift.

But Chadwick had the consolation of recording his first-ever hole in one at the club when he used his trusty wedge to ace the 17th hole.

Jim Dugdale won the nearest the pin award at the sixth.

Nigel Clark, partnered by Steve Wilson, won the Daily Mail Foursomes at the club with a score of 62.5.

But it was the pairing of George Westwell and Jimmy Robertshank who were the talk of the clubhouse.

The combined age of the club’s oldest members is 150, and they rolled back the years to earn runners-up spot with an excellent knock of 63.

Mick Ellis and Brian Taylor won the nearest the pin awards at the sixth and 17th holes respectively.
