Burnley’s Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club started the season is some style when three of its youngsters made the long journey to Cheshire.
First up for the Hargreaves Street club was Rio ‘DJ’ Lynch (10) vs A. Gallagher (Wildcard ABC) in what was a very one sided affair.
Rio’s switch hitting no nonsense style had his taller south pawed opponent flummoxed straight from the opening and the second and third rounds once again saw a dominating performance from the Stoop’s showman in this his ring debut .
Reiko ‘Riot’ Rickwood (11) graced the squared circle next against home town favourite C.Smith (Beartown ABC) in three.
The HameldonYear 7 pupil unleashed a ferocious barrage of blows which made Smith retreat to the back foot with the next phase of attack forcing the referee to administer a standing eight count.
Coming out in the second, Stoop Estate’s Rickwood had one intention and within 20 seconds of the round a double jab rear hand combo hit the mark with such precision the referee had seen enough , ending the contest in favour of Rickwood.
Hoping to make it a clean sweep, Sandygate’s unbeaten prospect ‘Smokin’ Joe Crawford (11) risked his title against fellow unbeaten Midlands prospect A.Mahmood, giving away weight, age and experience.
The first round saw Crawford knock Mahmood to the canvas with the referee no choice but to give a standing 8 count. The third and final round left all judges ringside in no doubt who they were going to award the unanimous verdict to.
