Sandygate ABC’s North West champion Brett Windle has won through to the North West round of England Boxing (ABA’s) Youth Championship Semi-Final as he looks to regain his title.

Last weekend the 16-year-old faced T.Munday (Macclesfield ABC), and boxing for the first time at three three-minute rounds, it was sink or swim for the experienced Burnley College pupil.

From the opening exchanges, Windle returned every advance with greater accuracy, countering well, switching target areas with every attack.

The second, much like the first was the Sandygate pugilists’, as he started to dominate proceedings with his faster hands and quick reflexes.

The third showed the Festive season training had paid off as Windle caught the durable Macclesfield lad more frequently, including an exquisite right hook to the body to head combination, which resulted in Munday being unable to defend himself, as he dropped his hands and stopped boxing.

Sensing a stoppage, the experienced Munday held on for the duration of the round, but the verdict was announced in favour unanimously of Windle, who now faces a tough semi-final against Bolton’s Jordan Battel (Blackrod ABC).

The young prospects at the popular Hargreaves Street club also saw action at Grange-Over-Sands in the Kendal ABC show.

Bram “Pretty-Boy” Richmond (11) dominated all three rounds in a skills bout against D.Farish (Carlisle Villa ABC), showing how well the Burnley RUFC starlet has taken to a different sport.

Stoops Estate’s unbeaten Rio “DJ” Lynch (11) faced local rival K. Morley (Clayton ABC).

The first saw the Sandygate boxer show off great ringcraft, leading Morley in towards his rapid lead hand jab before moving away at angles, only to return with loaded rear hands. The second and third were also one sided affairs, with Lynch getting the better of the exchanges, keeping his unbeaten record intact as the Hameldon year 7 pupil was awarded the winner by the judges ringside.

Lewis Stansfield (11) narrowly lost out on a split decision against I.Carrigan (Currock House ABC), as did senior Connor Barrow against J.Smith (Carlisle Villa ABC).

Also boxing on Saturday, Reiko “Riot” Rickwood (12) & James “Elvis” Danson (14) return to the ring.
