Seven Burnley Bobcats swimmers competed at Salford Quays in the North West Region Open Water Championships last weekend.
In the 1,500m Age Group Championships, gold medals and regional titles were won by Thomas Hamer and Ella Sheridan in the 13 years category. Both will swim the event at the National Championships in Sheffield in July, where they stand an excellent chance of getting a podium finish if they continue to work as hard as they have been in training.
In the same age group, Jack Moodie completed the course and earned himself a bronze medal, with a good swim in tough conditions.
Erica Minozzi and Grace Pickles entered but were overcome with the cold and failed to finish.
In the 1,750m Youth race, Luke Pickles won a bronze medal in the age 15/16 group and in the age 17/18 group Ben Nutter took the silver medal.
Head Coach Michael Robinson said: “Ella and Tom had fantastic races, they should be full of confidence for the Nationals having won gold in the toughest region, swimming in very cold conditions”
