Records tumble as Burnley Bobcats make splash

A STACK of personal bests fell as Burnley Bobcats were named Top Visiting team at a competition in Salford.

Alex Minozzi also took home the Top Junior Boy award and Jamie Sharpley the Top Senior Boy award.

Jamie (12) led the medal table for Bobcats, swimming in six races and winning six gold medals. Nine-year-old Alex was close behind, taking five gold medals from his five races while Elliott Norman (10) won 4 gold medals.

Robert Bryce (11) scooped two golds and Dean Moorhouse (11) won one.As well as their gold medals, Robert also won silver and a bronze and Dean won two silvers and a bronze.

The girls swam equally as well. Kerry Holding (15), took gold in the 50m freestyle and silver in the 100m butterfly, Hannah Procter (10) with a bronze in the 50m breastroke and Ellie Taylor (11) with a bronze in the 200m individual medley.

Though not winning medals, Thomas Mackay, Thomas Hamer, Ben Nutter, Lucy Cole, Elicia Brown, Sophie Murphy, Saffron Fenton, Grace Pickles, Abigail Procter and Elizabeth Greenwood all swam well with many of them recording big personal bests.

Some of the swimmers were competing as Bobcats for the first time and have been working hard in training leading up to this event.

Coach Andrew Blackburn said after the meet: “I am extremely pleased with the results. Their commitment and attitude is paying dividends and I am sure there is more to come from them.”

Head coach Michael Robinson said: “The younger swimmers swam really well showing the depth and quality within the squad. This shows great potential for the future of Bobcats.”
