Burnley’s Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club’s hottest prospects picked up North West ABA recognition awards at the Waterside Hotel, Didsbury, Manchester recently.
Three of the clubs England top 10-ranked pugilists were invited to the prestigious event.
First up for the Hargreaves Street club was Stoop’s Estate’s National Minors Finalist, North Westchampion and North of England champion Reiko “Riot” Rickwood (12) - the Year 8 Hameldon pupil collecting his medal after a cracking season.
Next up was Burnley College student, North West champion Brett “Wrekin’” Windle, 16, who, for the second year, collected the regional title, beating England vested opponents along the way, receiving a special mention from the master of ceremonies as one to look out for this season, such is the reputation the Gannow boxer has earned.
Last up for the talented trio was Ighten Hill’s “Smokin’” Joe Crawford, 12, after a great debut championship season, winning the Minors North West mantle, as well as beating two Regional champions in the schoolboy age group above, proving himself to be another outstanding talent recognised by the Regional selectors.
