Burnley’s oldest boxing club, Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club, held its annual awards night at a full to the rafters, sold out event at the Ighten Leigh Social Club.

First up for awards were the clubs up and coming talent, James Danson (14), Dylan Lord (12), Joe Crawford (12), Rio Lynch (11) and Connor Barrow (16), all getting special recognition.

Bout of the Year was won by National Minors Finalist Reiko “Riot” Rickwood (12), after the Hameldon Year 8 pupil’s cracking victory over C.Francis (Hoddenham ABC).

The Most Improved boxer awards were won by unbeaten Unity Year 8 pupil “Hurricane” Harvey Fletcher (12) and senior Brandon Hartley (17).

Boxer of the Year went to Burnley College student Brett “Wrekin’” Windle (16) after a excellent season, beating three England Internationals and taking the GB Welsh Champion the distance.

The much-anticipated Bob Rosbotham Trophy, given to the boxer with the greatest club spirit, training attitude, dedication, determination and discipline, went to the popular Shuttleworth Year 11 student Brendon “Bam-Bam” Collins (15), to loud appreciation from the crowd of family and friends of the Hargreaves Street club.

Coach Andy Howcroft picked up the Long Service to Boxing award for all his years voluntary hard work coaching at the club.

The club now look forward to the forthcoming season, and anyone interested in joining can via www.sandygateabc.com or coach Nik (07855505719).
