Pendle Forest’s unbeaten run finally fell as they lost 3-1 to leaders Kirkby Stephen in their top-of-the-table clash.
The game started in a fiery manner and Forest were on the back foot after only five minutes when Kirkby Stephen pulled the ball back from the backline and swiftly forced it in by the left post.
Ten minutes later they scored a further goal from a penalty corner, leaving Forest with an uphill struggle.
Further into the half Kirky Stephen went down to 10 men, and Forest used the time to pile on the pressure, forcing a penalty corner, with Cathy Waters placing a perfect strike into the the bottom left of the goal just before half-time.
Forest tried to mix up the play in the second half with great passing moves down each side of the pitch, using Olivia Purtill and Fiona Chadwick, as well as some timely interceptions by Deb Bythell, spurring PF on in midfield.
They had a run of penalty corners, but frustratingly did not manage to convert.
And late on, Kirkby Stephen managed to split the defence and find a gap, leaving the final score at 3-1.
Meanwhile, Forest thirds’ great form continued with a 3-1 win over Preston at Marsden Heights.
In the first ten minutes it was all Forest, passing was with such accuracy that Preston didn’t get near the ball.
Forest’s first goal came from a well-worked attack, with Mawgan Naylor in the centre of midfield laying it wide right for Emma Ziegloser, who took on the defenders and once in the D struck a well-hit ball into the bottom right hand corner.
It was 2-0 when player of the match Mags Robinson made a forward push into the D and played a well-weighted ball to Claire Birkett, who, with one touch, diverted it reverse stick into the net.
Against the run of play Preston got a goal of their own to make it 2-1 at half-time, but in the second half, Naylor took a free hit, dribbled into the D and swept the ball forwards with power for it to cross the line.
