Two members of Padiham Shotokan Karate Academy put in stellar performances at Amateur British Karate Championships.

John Carr gained 3rd place in the Men’s Senior Middle Weight category, losing out in the semi-final to the eventual winner.

Meanwhile Nick Keys gained second place in the Masters Open Weight category, beating the past champion on the way to the final. He lost out to the current World silver medalist in a very close and hard fought final.

They were part of the ITKA (International Traditional Karate Association) team which took 10 people to the Championships, and managed to take a total of four 1sts, five 2nds and six 3rds.

Some of the ITKA team were also selected to join the National team in the Under 21 European Championships in Hungary later this year.

Their next competition on the calendar is the AMA ( Amateur Martial Associations) North-West open in September.

Both train every Thursday 7 p.m. at the Unity Centre in Church Street, Padiham.
