Outstanding Burnley beat Thornton

Burnley produced another outstanding display in defeating second-placed Thornton on Saturday.

Unbeaten Burnley trailed to an early try, but responded well with some scintillating rugby, scoring six tries from Rob Lawless, Adam Wallis, Danny Rowlands, Simon Finnan and a Felipe Alefosi brace.

Sam Moussey added four kicks

Jack Stockdale and Ash Rothwell were everywhere in the loose, Rothwell being replaced by Tom Hall after an injury, who proved an admirable replacement.

The visitors never gave up, but Burnley responded with interest to every Thornton score to run out 38-16 winners.

The only sour note was a serious injury to player /coach Simon Finnan, which resulted in the game finishing 10 minutes early.

All at the club wish Simon a speedy recovery.

The ladies beat Littleborough 42-5 in their first outing of the season.

The seconds went down 20-12 at Southport, while the thirds toppled league leaders Aspull 23-22.

Tomorrow, Burnley first XV and thirds travel to Bury and Preston respectively, while the seconds are home to Trafford . On Sunday, all juniors are training at 10 a.m.
