St Peter’s Burnley Squash Club went down 4-1 at Tam Valley in the first game of the North West Counties Squash League.
Against one of the strongest teams, Burnley put in a good performance.
Jon Smith was first on the court, and put in a determined effort before running out of steam and losing 3-0.
Daniel Whittaker won the first game, but a combination of inexperience and nerves resulted in a 3-1 defeat.
Third on court was Nik Czernianin, who put on a performance of power play, but, against a more experienced player, went down 3-0.
Scott Wise, a seasoned team player, who, on a colder court with his brilliantly flighted service would have taken at least a game, also lost 3-0.
Number one Rod Tagget’s superior fitness and a determination saw him save the whitewash, winning 3-0.
St Peter’s next game is away to David Lloyd Bolton.
