Nine months after forming, Burnley win MABL Play-Offs

Burnley LT United are the Manchester Area Basketball League Second Division Play-Off champions.

Last weekend the MABL play-offs took place at Wright Robinson College, home of the newly-formed professional team Manchester Giants.

On Saturday, all the teams from the Premier Division and Divisions One and Two played their semi-finals, with the winners going through to the finals on Sunday.

Burnley had two teams in action- Burnley LT United in the Second Division and Burnley 1 in the Premier Division.

And Burnley LT United, formed only nine months ago, came through to win.

Under the stewardship of Giulio Minozzi, Burnley LT United had a very good season, coming fourth after the regular season.

They dispatched an experienced Preston team in the quarter-finals a week before the play offs, with a resounding win at home.

On Saturday, against Free City, Burnley won 78-77, to progress to the final against MMU.

Sunday’s final started with both team trading baskets, with the first quarter score 11-11. but due to MMU fielding a ineligible player, Burnley won the game by default, 20-0.

The club are currently training at St Peter’s Centre on Saturdays from 2-3 p.m.
