Burnley Basketball Club Under 16s’ National League side were back on court at home against Liverpool at Burnley College on Saturday.

The locals, back in training only on Tuesday after two weeks off, were off the mark with a bang.

After just five minutes, Burnley were ahead 10-4, but the game was still in the balance.

Ben Chicken and Jordan Green were the major threat in offence and Xersus Aspiras was doing a fine job in defence.

In the last five minutes of the first quarter, Liverpool took charge and scored 14 points against a very tired Burnley.

Second quarter saw Burnley battling and Liverpool just doing enough to keep their noises ahead.

The third quarter started with Liverpool playing very fast and creating a lot of trouble for Burnley, but the locals got the measure of Liverpool and eventually they started scoring baskets.

The last quarter saw Burnley imposing their tempo and moving the ball in offence more efficiently, and the final score saw Burnley beaten by Liverpool 54-72.

Coach Minozzi said: “We prepared very well, but we need to come to terms this season that we don’t have enough quality to be able to compete with the better teams such as Liverpool

“We have 2 outstading players, Ben Chicken and Jordan Green that will be able to outscore, outplay and outjump any of the opponents.

“The rest of the team needs to work harder together.”
