Local optician and experienced rally co-driver Neil Bye had a successful trip up to Scotland for the Jim Clark Memorial Rally.

Winning the class, he and driver Carl Tuer from Alnwick entered in their MG 25 ZR 1600 not once but twice, firstly on the UK National Tarmac championship, and then on the second day of the International event, winning their class in the Scottish Tarmac leg.

The team started off very well, setting a time that beat many of the international teams with far bigger budgets and more powerful cars.

By the end of the first event they had a massive three and a half minute margin; which is relatively unheard of in rallying circles.

On the second day’s event they had to work a lot harder for their class win -13 seconds was the difference, and at one stage it was as close to two seconds.

Bye thanks his sponsors Whitekirk Golf and Country Club and Oakley Sunglasses.
