JUNIOR golfers showed off their best shots to Rossendale & Darwen MP Jake Berry.

Mr Berry paid a visit to Golf Rossendale Driving Range & Academy at Marl Pits on Saturday to see how the range is developing golf in the Valley.

He joined members of the range’s popular Junior Academy in their coaching session and hit a few shots himself.

He said: “It is great to see so many youngsters taking part in golf at the range. Golf should not be an elitist sport for the privileged few and it is fantastic that Golf Rossendale is introducing more and more youngsters to the game.”

Mr Berry toured the golf facility, which has been open for just 15 months, and congratulated owners Scott & Amanda Grundy on achieving the coveted England Golf Rangemark accreditation.

Scott Grundy said: “We are working hard to increase participation in golf and invited Jake Berry to come and see for himself the success we have had so far.

“We already work closely with local golf clubs and some schools, and we are looking to access some additional funding grants to enable us to introduce even more Valley children to golf.

“We also wanted to discuss with Jake the issues affecting sport and tourism in the Valley, including problems getting adequate signage to encourage more visitors from out of the area, which would provide a boost to the local economy.”
