Macadam wins tight contest at Burnley Golf Club

SOME fine golf saw Nick Macadam win the first 36-hole competition for handicaps of 10 and above at Burnley Golf Club.

Macadam shot (83-16-67) and (89-16-73) fo finish on 140 net closely followed by Paul Ridgeway on 141 with (84-16-68) and (89-16-73).

This competition took place on the Sunday after the club championship to allow all catergories to play over the week-end on what was an excellently prepared course.

Burnley Golf Club hosted a mixed age group county match between Lancashire and Durham last Tuesday and after six foursomes in the morning over 10 holes followed by 11 singles matches in the afternoon over 18 holes the match was won comfotably by the young Lancashire side.

On the hime front, Saturday 9th July saw the monthly medal contested over the four divisions with excellent scores throughout which resulted in many handicaps being reduced significantly.

The 1st Division contest was won by Ian Owens with his (69-3-66) helping him to first place with Dane Harrison (73-6-67) in the runner-up spot.

In third place, Eugene Kirk concluded a very successful week by carding a (76-9-67).He had won the Ray Felters knock out final on the Wednesday evening beating Billy Holmes on the 18th in a closely contested final.

In the 2nd Division. Steve Thorley took the honours with (76-13-63), followed by Surrey cricketer Michael Brown (75-10-65) edging out Keith Ratcliffe (76-10-66) into third place.

The 3rd Division was won by David Bannister with (80-11-64). David Scaife (82-17-65) came in second with Jeremy Shirt edging out Nick Macadam with (82-16-66) to take third place.

David Hannan was the 4th Division champion shooting (82-19-63) to finish ahead of Andy McLoughlin (85-19-66) and Duncan Mudie (95-28-67).

A highly succesful BMW Corporate day saw local members the Scaife brothers amongst the prizes with David being in the winning team and Ray taking the individual prize.
