The Lancashire Ladies’ Bowling Association charity team event, hosted by Padiham Bowling Club, was a huge success.

Teams from Bolton, Burnley, Bury, Chorley, Manchester, Preston, Rochdale and Southport took part in a round-robin style competition, with a final between the two top-scoring teams.

Not only did the New Start Charity at Wythenshawe Hospital benefit from the event to the tune of £1,300, but the Burnley Ladies’ town team successfully defended their title, winning the event for the second year running by beating Chorley in the final by just one point.

President of the Lancashire Ladies’ Bowling Association for 2014 is local bowler Mavis Hancock, who said: “Thanks go to Padiham Bowling Club for allowing us to use their green and facilities without charge, along with all the people and organisations that donated raffle prizes, tombola prizes and food for the event.

“Thanks must also go to those who bought raffle tickets and those who turned up on the day to support the event.

“It was a huge effort from everyone concerned, especially the Lancashire Ladies’ County Bowling Association who ran the bowling event.”
