Blessed Trinity’s Kady-Jo Wood is hoping to sail to success after raising money for one of her heroes.
The 14-year-old, dfrom Harle Syke, has been sailing for eight years, picking up her love of the sport from her dad and granddad.
And she took part in the worldwide event Bart’s Bash to raise money for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation.
Olympian Andrew “Bart” Simpson tragically died last year in San Francisco while training for the America’s Cup, and the foundation has been set up in his name to inspire the next generation of sailors.
“He was someone I admired,” said Kady-Jo, who is a member of Burwain Sailing Club at Foulridge.
“It was a worldwide event and we all had to sail at around the same time to try and break the world record.
“We spent 90 minutes sailing at Foulridge reservoir and I raised £200 for the foundation.”
