Huge success for Burnley swimmers

BURNLEY Aquatic swimmers competed in the North Lancashire age group championships at Palatine Pool in Blackpool recently.

Highlight of the meet was the huge success of the newly-formed squadron teams.

The women’s squad set the pace in the 13/14 years’ individual medley with second place, followed by the 12/13 years’ 200m freestyle team coming first.

The women’s open 200m freestyle team also swam to victory.

With the girls setting the standard, the boys were not to be outdone with the 12-year-olds’ 200m individual medley squad coming second and the men’s open 200m freestyle team coming first.

The excitement mounted with the final event being the 6x50m freestyle canon team storming to first place and taking the gold for Burnley.

Individual swimmers also took to the podium, with 11 year old Harry Pilkington winning his age group and Jamie Sharpley coming second in the 12-year-old age group.Ella Sheridan came first in the 12-year-old girls, and Grace Pickles achieving fourth place.

Katie Rennolds came second in the 13-year-old girls, and Erica Minnozi came third.

Emma Fothergill, 14, also swam to second place in her age group.

Lucy Cole, Colette Meade, Sophie Murphy , Kerry Holding, Jack Moodie, Tom Hamer, Luke Pickles, Ben Nutter, Dan Fox, Jake Copeman, Alex Minozzi, Tomas Mackay, Micheal Robinson, Matthew Holden also swam, with many achieving new personal best times.
