THESE are glory days for Burnley darts with the town’s men’s team having a breakthrough season, winning Lancashire’s top league, the Men’s Elite Super 8.

The victory, a first for a Burnley darts team since 1977, qualified them for the British Championships.

The nine-man team then proved their top class credentials with an emphatic display of darts to win the North West regional finals of the Championship, held in Wales.

The Burnley team beat the league winners from Stafford 6-3, the Merseyside team 6-3 and sent the Cheshire team home nursing an 8-1 defeat.

Burnley’s team includes three county players - one of whom is the on-form Burnley first team cricket player, Graham Lalor.

The team remains unbeaten since October 2010.

The team travel to Daventry today for the British Champions Cup finals, where they take on the other eight regional winners, including last year’s winner from Yorkshire.
