OATHEY Jones completed a hat-trick of national champions for Roche ABC as he dominated his opponent to win the ABA Schoolboy Championship at the Newbiggin Sports Centre in Northumberland.
The 11-year-old joined Jack Steff and George Drinkwater - making the local club the only one in the country with three national titles - as he extended his perfect amateur record to seven wins from seven bouts with a 42-10 victory over Portsmouth’s Harry Needham.
Fighting in the 40-42kg category, Jones turned in a classy display against a rival from the Ted Harris Boxing Academy, who was also unbeaten in five fights.
Coach Brian Roche beamed: “Oathey fought unbelievably well against another unbeaten lad.
“Needham was taller, but Oathey was too clever for him.
“He really was brilliant.”
