Burnley lost out 55-15 at champions Tarleton on Saturday,

Twenty minutes in they were looking at a cricket score as they went 25-0 dow, but they regrouped, and even though Tarleton scored again, Dom Leck darted over.

With Tarleton not conceding more than one try per game since October, Burnley were in a battle but did not fold, with solid runs by Ryan Bradley and Nino Angelone and good kicking from Brian Kelly. The forwards began to exert pressure, and fly half Simon Finnan found a gap for his ninth try of the campaign. Tarleton then scored another try, but this did not stop Burnley hitting rucks strongly, turning more balls over, and from a loose bouncing pass by Finnan, Ed Taylor collected and went over.

The seconds had a 10-8 win at home to Blackburn but had to dig deep. Gavin Gregory raced over for a try which Gus Ferguson converted, before Danny Rycroft kicked the winning points after some great drives by the forwards.

The thirds went close at unbeaten Leigh, losing 14-12, with scores from Gary Dixon and Paddy Murphy.

Tomorrow Burnley finish their campaign at second-placed Bolton. The seconds and thirds are home to Vale of Lune and Tyldesley, all 3 p.m. kick-offs.

Tuesday is the annual St George’s Day lunch at 1 p.m., ring 424337 for details .
