VICTORY was Ian Henderson's in the prestigious Burnley Cup as he completed the round with a score of 71-5-66.

Gary Blades took second place in the Burnley Golf Club event, following a card play-off with a score of 68-1-67 ahead of Mark Ridgway (71-4-67).

Chris Clough was definitely on top form at the weekend at Towneley Golf Club.

On Saturday in the "yellow ball" competition he was partnered by his dad Terry, son Dominic and Colin Cavanagh to easily take the plaudits with an incredible score of 142 points.

Runners up on 128 points was the team of Ross Swift, Pat O'Hare, Christian Archard and Madge Walmsley.

Clough started where he left off on the Sunday to win the prestigious club scratch played over 36 holes.

In sweltering conditions he carded impressive rounds of 72-72 to win from vice-captain Steve Wyatt (74-74).

Former Middlesbrough centre-half Brian "The Beast" Taylor (71-77) finished third while club champion Andrew Miller (72-78) came fourth.

The other players to now play in the scratch matchplay are Paul Keenan, Neil Jackson, Dominic Clough and Steve Turner.

Nearest the pin awards in the "yellow ball" competition were Steve Wyatt and Dominic Clough.

The midweek stableford winner was "Pistol" Pete Hargreaves on 39 points with "Farmer" Jim Fitton runner-up two points adrift.

Lady captain Dawn Elliott won the Thornber Shield at Burnley Golf Club when she returned 89-18-71 to win by a shot from Fran Taylor (95-23-72).

Visitors from Marsden Park - John and Sue Ellison, Drew Melville and Julie Hargreaves - totalled 92 points to win the Open Mixed Team event at Burnley on Sunday.

Home members Ray and Isobel Scaife were joined by Nelson's Brian and Jackie Swift to score 87 points for second place.

That saw them finish four clear of the host club's Graham Howarth, Debbie Jackson and David and Jean Scaife.
