THERE was gold waiting at the end of the rainbow for talented Judo enthusiast James Buckley.
The youngster represented Burnley Judo Club at the North West Area Open competition in Shadsworth and scooped the prestigious medal with flying colours.
But he wasn’t the only success story for the club, who train at Energise Dance and Fitness studios in Barden Lane, as six others claimed silver medals, another eight bronze medals, while three senior competitors were also awarded bronze medals.
Silver medallists were: David Ellis, Ben Kilgallon, Ken Quimpo, Hadley George, Jon Harrison and Harry Jackson-Smith.
Bronze medallists were: Isaac Kavanagh, Sam Naughton, Sam Kelly, Aaron Walker, Jamie Wilkinson, Andrew Bradshaw, Harrison George and Thomas Walmersley.
Senior bronze medallists were: Chris Cummins, Rory Johnson and David Si.
Congratulations also went to coach Steve Maddock who obtained his black belt first Dan grade. Steve said: “I’m very proud of what everybody’s achieved. These kids have worked hard and for many of them it was their first competition so all credit to them. We are trying to encourage that competitive side to Judo.”
Anybody interested in joining the club, where children range from eight years old to 15, can contact Steve on (01282) 455290 or 07799 672460. Sessions take place on Wednesday and Friday and the first two lessons are free.
