George Drinkwater added another title to a groaning trophy cabinet at Roche ABC as he won the North West 57-60k title at Gorton’s Boxing Centre of Excellence. on Sunday.
Facing Middleton’s Dan Wright, the popular 15-year-old won 24-18 in a fight that had those present on their feet, and coach Brian Roche said: “It was a cracking fight, we thought it would be close, but George stepped it up and won every round.”
He now has a clean sweep of titles, having won the ABA and National belts, and Roche added: “He’s a real prospect, and a great character.”
At the same show, Morgan Jackson won the 71-75k title, beating the nephew of Tyson Fury, Tom Scott from Lancaster’s Skerton ABC 21-20.
Fury, fresh from maintaining his unbeaten record against Martin Rogan in Belfast the night before. was at ringside for the event.
Roche said: “Tom had Tyson in his corner, which was fantastic, but Morgan was brilliant.”
Roche ABC has been up and running for five years and now boast nine champions - including three national champions, Oathey Jones, Jack Steff and Drinkwater (pictured).
