Burnley golfer Gary Townley met Ryder Cup captain José María Olazábal as he competed in the Nespresso Trophy Grand Final in San Sebastian, Spain.
Gary and his guest Guy Bretherton were part of 12 lucky UK qualifiers treated to an intimate ‘Meet José María Olazábal Experience’ in the Nespresso ambassador’s home city.
The 12 players, who qualified through regional finals at Woburn, The Mere and Foxhills, flew out before checking in to the luxurious 5-star Hotel Maria Christina.
Olazábal treated the qualifiers to a private golf clinic, which included advice on chipping, iron play and driving.
The players competing in the individual 3/4 stableford competition were also given the chance to play with Olazábal on the par 3, 4th hole in Nespresso’s Beat Jose Maria Challenge.
Gary and Guy had progressed to the final with a second place finish at The Mere golf club during the Nespresso Trophy regional qualifier.
During the final, Olazábal shared his professional tips along with the most significant and emotional moments of his career in golf with the amateurs from the 2012 Ryder Cup victory.
