It’s that time of year again when resolutions are made but collapse like a tower of playing cards caught in the wind.

Plans are made with good intention, promises pledged in an unwritten contract, but eventually the thought of adhering to them ultimately proves too taxing.

But you don’t have to be one of those that fails this test of character at the first hurdle in 2016 because help is at hand.

Those ruggedly handsome fellas at FLS have unselfishly shouldered the responsibility of aiding the region’s health and fitness goals with the sixth installment of the eight-week metabolic challenge.

And I can testify first hand just how effective it can be. As the hub’s fifth edition of the programme culminated results highlighted that I’d improved in 12 of the 15 disciplines, with the best outcome (AST squat jumps) showing a 35.5% performance increase.

As well as shaving an incredible 21 seconds off my run time, I even cut my body fat percentage while retaining my body weight.

Yes the turkey, chocolate, alcohol and Christmas pudding took its toll over the festive period but I’ll be looking to Anthony Tibbs, Jackjon Butcher and Phil Riley to help me hit peak physical fitness once again.

The guys cater for everybody - regardless of experience, levels of fitness or ultimate ambition. They’re on hand to get you fitter, leaner and stronger (FLS) via an eclectic collection of training methods.

The schedule includes HIIT circuits, abdominal routines, CrossFit type workouts, combat, bootcamp, upper body workouts, strongman classes and much more. It’s group fitness with a refreshing, enjoyable and rewarding twist.

The next challenge starts on Saturday, January 30th, while the offer of half price personal training and unlimited classes for one month expires at 11-59 p.m. the following day. For more information visit www.fls-fitness.co.uk/half-price-personal-training.

Meanwhile, FLS Fitness will be hosting a family fun day on Saturday, January 16th at their base on Time Technology Park, in Blackburn Road, Simonstone, with all proceeds being donated to Pendleside Hospice.

There’ll be an inflatable gladiator duel, face painting, bouncy castle, cake stall, beauty and lifestyle stalls, raffles plus fitness orientated competitions such as a tug of war.
