ROCHE Amateur Boxing Club got the new season off to the perfect start as debutant Owen Thomas stormed to victory.
The 22-year-old Burnley boxer beat Blackpool Kingscote fighter George Holmes unanimously at the seaside resort’s Central Club.
Thomas had sent his opponent hurtling to the canvas early in the second round.
Club coach Brian Roche said: “He could have gone all out for the knockout but I wanted him to go the distance so he could get the experience.
“It was a really impressive debut because he was up against a really good lad, but he took him apart.
“He was way too strong for him.”
Roche added: We’ve got some top class lads coming through at the club now so this should be a good season for us.
“There’s some real hot prospects in our amateur ranks.”
The club will be holding its first show of the season at Byerden House on Friday, November 18th at 7-30 p.m.
George Drinkwater and Jack Steff are both set to appear among the 14 bouts scheduled to take place.
Tickets for the event are £15 and can be purchased from Brian Roche by calling 07749 903771.
