Fantastic experience for swim duo at Catholic Student Games

Two Burnley Bobcats swimmers won medals in Kecskemet, Hungary, representing Great Britain Catholic Students in the FISEC Games.

Kerry Holding (17) opened the swimming programme, in the 50m Freestyle heats, and posted a long course personal best of 28.34 seconds to secure a place in the afternoon final with the second fastest time.

Next up was Emma Fothergill (15) in the 100m Backstroke heats, and again Emma qualified for the final, with the second fastest time of 1.12.00.

The last event of the morning session was the 200m Freestyle final, and Kerry secured GB’s first medal with a silver in a time of 2.11.61.

The afternoon finals session kicked off with Emma in the 100m Backstroke, who produced another good time of 1.12.12 to win bronze,

Kerry quickly followed in the 50m Freestyle final with another silver medal in a time of 28.54 and both girls swam in the 4 x 100m Freestyle relay, being placed fourth.

Day two opened up with Kerry in the 50m Butterfly heats, where she earned another long course PB of 30.66, securing a place in the final with the second fastest time.

Shortly after Kerry was up again, along with Emma, in the 100m Freestyle heats, where both qualified for the final, Emma in seventh position in a time of 1.04.89 and Kerry in second with a time of 1.01.22.

In the afternoon finals session, Emma was first up in the 200m Backstroke, finishing fourth, just edged out of a medal in a time of 2.37.26.

Kerry followed in the 100m Freestyle final and secured her third silver in a time of 1.01.47.

The next final, just five minutes later, saw Kerry on the blocks again in the 50m Butterfly, and she finished fourth, just pipped for a Bronze in a great time of 30.74.

Both girls then finished off with a Medley Relay swim and were placed in seventh.

Day three was the team events, which both Kerry and Emma competed in and they finished off the event with some great team swims.

Finally Kerry was selected as Girls’ Team Captain for the GBR swim team.

Both girls thoroughly enjoyed the Games and said “it was an honour to represent the GB Catholic Schools and a fantastic experience”.
