Ellie claims the English WKU Kickboxing title

Shuttleworth College student Ellie Thomas is the English WKU Kickboxing champion at 42kg.

The 12-year-old fought for the belt at Mount Carmel in Accrington, and was proud to be awarded the champion’s prize.

“I had to fight five one-minute rounds against a girl called Tamara Robinson from Accrington, and I was proud to win,” said the Year Eight student.

“My parents were watching and were so happy!”

Ellie got involved with Dragons Kickboxing Club on Accrington Road when her brother started going, and her dad suggested giving it a go in 2014.

“I train three or four days a week and I really enjoy it.

“I was nervous before the fight, but was proud to win.

“Now I have this and the purple belt, and I will aim to take my brown belt in June and then train for my black belt.

“My dream is to get a black belt and go to the world kickboxing championships.”
