Burnley’s Edward Burnie, who trains at Bacup Judo Club, recently won the gold medal at the North West Judo Championships at the Sutton Leisure Centre, St Helens.
The 11-year-old won all three of his fights at the competition, as he became North West shampion for the first time.
Edwardwon his first contest by Ippon - a full point - with a Tai-Otoshi throw, and the second contest was won with a Muni Gatami hold down - when you hold your opponent down on his back for 20 seconds.
And Edward’s final fight was won with a combination throw and hold down.
Edward, who is a Year 7 pupil at Blessed Trinity, has been training at Bacup Judo Club since he was six years old.
His coach Brian Moore said: “Edward is one of the best prospects we have had at the club for many years, and I fully expect him to win many more gold medals in the future.”
