Captain’s team has the edge at Burnley Golf Club

Saturday saw the annual Captain’s versus Vice-Captain’s match take place at Burnley as a stableford competition.

The Captain’s team ran out comfortable winners by 961 points to 930 points, the individual winners being Roger Spence, partnering Geoff Butterfield, with 42 points on the Vice-Captain’s team, with Aiden Riley and Oliver Ridgeway amassing 41 points for the Captain’s team.

• DAVE Plumb’s 46 points wonn the first round of the Winter League at Towneley.

Jamie Sturgeon was runner-up on the card from Ernie Whittaker, both with 43.

The past captains’ competition also took place, with Anthony Hargreaves first with 42 points from Nick Rae (40).

The previous day, Vice-Captain Mick Bradshaw organised the council trip to Nelson, with the winners of the Three-Man Team event in the morning being Pete Jackson, Gary Turner and Gary Collinson, and in the afternoon, the Four-Man Team was won by Collinson, Turner, Andrew Slater and Ian Ponton.
