Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club hit the road again last week when North West Junior Novice Champion Brendan “Bam-Bam” Collins (15) travelled to Merseyside to face J.Grosz (Kirkby ABC) at the Liverpool club’s show at the Envi nightclub.
The Shuttleworth Year 11 pupil unleased a barrage of blows which totally overwhelmed his taller foe, and after just 29 seconds, the referee had no choice but to administer a eight count as Grosz sunk to his feet after a crunching left hook to the body.
The bout continued for 10 more seconds when again the man-in-the-middle had to intervene and end the contest.
Also seeing action at the Sharpstyle ABC show Blackpool, Wellfield Primary Year 6 pupil Nathan “Tyson” Danson (11) boxed J.Dadak (Sharpstyle ABC) in a non-decision skills bout, with boys showing great promise for the future.
Another young prospect, unbeaten Rio “DJ” Lynch (11) made light work of H.Moran (Gorton ABC).
From the off the Hameldon Year 7 pupil harassed his Mancunian opponent, landing with cracking body shots then switching to the head before proceedings were stopped in the first round in favour of the fighter from Stoops Estate.
Also entering the ring with a unbeaten record was “Hurricane” Harvey Fletcher (13) against J.Kelly (Carlisle Villa ABC) in one of the bouts of the night at the sold out De Vere’s Hotel.
The first round saw the Unity Year 8 student have the better of the exchanges, and the second was fast paced, with Fletcher frustrating Kelly with his lead rear hand straight combinations.
The final round had the crowd on their feet as both fighters gave it everything, before a split verdict was announced, in favour of Fletcher.
Lewis Stansfield (11) narrowly lost to the impressive J.Abrol (Sharpstyle ABC) in a contest that could have gone either way.
