Burnley Tornados’ pre-season preparations are in full swing.
The senior flag team travelled to Coventry for a friendly tournament, taking on the recently-formed Coventry Cougars and more established Coventry Jets in their first matches.
Despite losing the games 20-12 and 19-6 respectively, the team performed admirably in adverse weather not conducive to the throwing game.
The following match saw them draw 12-12 with Warwick Wolverines, and in their final game, the Sheffield Vipers proved too strong and the Tornadoes were on the wrong end of a heavy 28-0 defeat.
The side now look forward to competing in the NuOla Tournament in mid-April.
The 16-19-year-olds of the junior team took on Chester Romans in a practice match and came out victorious in a 5 v 5 match, with a number of rookie players featuring for the team, showing great promise ahead of their home friendly tournament.
There they lost 18-6 to Manchester Panthers, before going down 36-28 to East Kilbride Pirates.
Burnley ended their games with a 20-0 win over Pennine Panthers from Leeds.
Hamilton Buccaneers and Chester Romans also took part in the tournament, with 100 players and coaches in attendance.
Tornados’ next pre-season friendly is in Manchester a week on Sunday.
