Burnley thirds come from behind to seal promotion in Lancaster

Burnley thirds clinched promotion from Division 5 North with a fine 35-28 win at Vale of Lune on Saturday.

The locals were trailing in Lancaster at half -time, but came back to win with scores from Jackson Linford, Craig Hardy,John Paul Walton, Dom Leck, Paddy Murphy and Ashley Nuttall.

Joe Parkinson added a penalty and a conversion.

The seconds had a morale-boosting win in an excellent game at home to Bury.

Playing some entertaining rugby, they won 39-3.

Burnley’s scorers were Paul Mullaband, Ian Coates, John Fenney, Danny Marshall and a brace from Matt Crowley, with Gus Ferguson adding a penalty and three conversions.

Burnley Under 13s won the derby match at Colne 43-22.

Burnley’s scorers were Jack Irvine, Chris Knowles, Sam Wold and braces from Henry Wilkes and Harry Smales.

Sam Wold added four conversions.

The girls’ team travelled to Southport to play in a festival against teams from the host club, Tyldesley and Eccles.

The girls won four matches, losing one .

Tomorrow, the first and thirds travel to Ashton under Lyne and Tyldesley, and the seconds are home to Fylde, all 3 p.m. kick-offs.

On Sunday, all juniors are at Keighley, except the Under 13s, who are home to Rossendale.
