Burnley moved into second place in the North West Counties Squash League as they continued their fine start to the season with a 4-1 away victory at Rochdale.

The first game was a marathon, with Jon Smith edging out his Rochdale opponent 3-2.

Daniel Whittaker continued his 100% start with a impressive 3-0 victory.

Nik Czernianin was never in any danger easily over coming the Rochdale player 3-0

Graham Riley was pushed by a very skilful player, but Graham’s quickly improving fitness proved too strong, and he went on to win 3-0.

The last game of the night saw Burnley’s number one Rod Taggart against Rochdale’s Helen Montgomery.

It proved to be the best match of the night with the games ebbing first one way then the other.

The finest point was won by Rod when he ran to the front of the court and started to play a drop shot, and as Montgomery dashed forward, Rod brilliantly changed the drop shot into a lob over Montgomery’s head, which brought loud applause from the crowd, including his opponent,

Unfortunately, he could not force a win and lost narrowly 3-2.
