Burnley’s rugby team ready for new season

BURNLEY concluded their preparations for the new season with a narrow 31-27 loss to Furness at Holden Road last Saturday.

With more than 40 players trying to put themselves in contention for tomorrow’s first match at home to Trafford, kick-off 3 p.m., the game was always going to be more about performances rather than the final result.

Coach Simon Finnan wont be complacent, but can take many positives as new players and young colts seized the opportunity to showcase their talents, and different combinations were tested under match conditions with some working and others less so.

Burnley’s points came from Lloyd Whittaker, Finnan, Matt Higson, Jack Stockdale, Billy Ingham and a Hugo Lever conversion.

All support will be made welcome at Holden Road at tomorrow’s match.
