Burnley RUFC are honoured

Burnley Rugby Club Chairman Paddy Murphy and wife Frances recently attended the RFU's President's Awards at Twickenham.

The awards recognise and reward outstanding rugby volunteers from clubs across England.

Guests attended this year’s awards prior to England’s match against Wales in the Old Mutual Wealth Cup.

The club were shortlisted from a record number of entries, being awarded runners-up spot in the Community Engagement category.

It is a great testament to the work of the club’s volunteers, particularly community rugby coach CRC Simon Finnan, that the club’s work was recognised.

RFU President Jason Leonard said: “Across the game, thousands of volunteers continue to freely give up their time so that others might play.

“These volunteers are literally worth their weight in gold, and rugby would not function without them.”

Burnley’s Summer touch rugby continues at Towneley triangle each Wednesday at 7 p.m., no experience necessary.
